MORE ABOUT THE CABINET
Alex is a second year student at Fuqua concentrating his studies in Entrepreneurship, Marketing and Strategy. Prior to becoming Co-President of the EVCC, he was responsible for Startup Support and Networking for the club. In this role, he worked on various initiatives including organizing a UNC, NC State and Duke MBA entrepreneurship event to forge closer relationships between students at these universities.
Currently, Alex serves as VP Sales for a Fuqua-based startup called Sidewalk which provides daily deals to students around Duke’s campus. This summer, he will be working with TechStars NYC, assisting with the company selection process, business development and monetization strategies and fundraising. Before Fuqua, Alex founded a global business development consulting firm which helped startups expand into emerging markets. Previously, he led sales teams at both Dell and Apple, serving clients ranging from VC-backed startups to Fortune 500 companies.
Alex received his B.A. in Spanish, Cultural Anthropology, and Markets & Management from Duke University. He enjoys snowboarding, tennis, racquetball, fly fishing and spending time with his wife Sarah and Golden Doodle Leroy. An avid traveler, Alex has lived, worked and played in 37 countries, with plans to visit 13 more and all 7 continents by his 30th birthday.
Nikin is second year second year MBA student concentrating in Entrepreneurship and pursuing a certificate in Health Sector Management at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. This past summer, he worked as a Venture Fellows intern at IDEA Fund Partners, a venture capital fund located in Durham, and as a Summer Associate at 8 Rivers Capital, an incubator / accelerator in Durham. At Fuqua, Nikin is also involved in the Private Equity Club and Health Care Club.
Prior to attending Fuqua, Nikin worked at his family’s company Polyzen, a contract manufacturer for medical devices. There he was responsible for managing and turning around one of the divisions. Prior to that, he was a consultant at Deloitte Consulting in the Strategy and Operations Group in Atlanta, GA.
Nikin received his B.S. in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (he’s a Tarheel). He enjoys trying new foods and restaurants, travelling, skiing, UNC Basketball, and spending time with his wife Rashmi.
Eric Alder, Director of Academics
Eric Alder is a first-year MBA student concentrating in finance and strategy at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. He currently serves as the Director of Academics for Fuqua’s entrepreneurship and venture capital club and the Risk Manager for the Fuqua’s Asset Management Club portfolio.
Prior to business school, Eric pursued his interest in horticulture and the outdoors by working as a general manager for the largest nation-wide landscape contracting company based in California and a top-10 landscape contracting company in New Mexico. Following his entrepreneurial passion, he identified an underserved, niche market in Albuquerque, New Mexico and started his own landscape company.
Eric enjoys snow skiing, mountain biking, racquetball, and spending time with his family. He currently lives in Durham with his wife and two daughters. He received his BS in Business Management with an emphasis in Finance from Brigham Young University.
Kevin Everson, Director of Venture Capital Careers
Kevin is a second year MBA candidate, pursuing concentrations in Finance and Entrepreneurship. He is working as a Venture Fellows intern at Southeast Interactive Technology Funds, a venture capital fund located in Research Triangle Park. With Southeast Interactive Technology Funds, he performs market research and due diligence for portfolio companies on potential investments. At Fuqua, Kevin is also involved in the Fuqua On-Board program, the Duke Start-up Challenge, Private Equity Club, and Golf Club.
Prior to coming to business school, Kevin worked as a senior consultant with Booz Allen Hamilton in Washington, DC. He provided financial analysis, program management, and business plan development support to Federal clients dedicated to enhancing the nation’s critical information capabilities, systems interoperability, and infrastructure security. Before joining Booz Allen, Kevin worked for Navigant Consulting, Inc. as a consultant in the Washington, DC office’s Litigation and Investigations practice.
Originally from Overland Park, Kansas, Kevin received his B.A. in Economics from Wake Forest University. He is a passionate sports fan, specifically college football and basketball, as well as NFL football. He enjoys travelling, music, reading, and spending time with his wife and his dog.
Bassaam Fawad, Director of Energy Networking
Bassaam Fawad is a SY at the Fuqua School of Business and will be working at The Boston Consulting Group over the summer where he plans to work on projects focused on energy. Prior to Fuqua Bassaam was working at Abraaj Capital in Dubai where he focused on investments in energy, agriculture and petrochemicals. As an EVCC cabinet member Bassaam is responsible for networking with entrepreneurs and venture capitalists focused on energy and clean tech.
Michael Ferguson, Director of Finance
Michael Ferguson is a second year MBA student concentrating in Corporate Finance. He is the Finance and Sponsorship Chair of the Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital Club. He is also the off-campus career search chair of the Finance Club, a Career Fellow, and a writer for the Fuqua Marketing Department.
During the summer, Michael will intern with Standard & Poor’s, in its credit ratings division. He will be responsible for assigning ratings to new debt issues, as well as monitoring economic events to determine the relevance and applicability of existing ratings. Michael had previously interned with Standard & Poor’s as an undergraduate, in public relations.
Prior to business school, Michael was a forensic financial consultant, and worked as an investigator in several of the more prominent frauds of the last decade. He previously served as an auditor with a major public accounting firm, performing control work for financial services firms and government agencies. Michael holds a B.A. in political science and a B.Ba. in Finance from the University of Notre Dame, and a M.S. in Accountancy from the University of Virginia. He is a Certified Public Accountant, as well as a Chartered Financial Analyst and Certified Fraud Examiner.
Ted Getten, Director of Technology Networking
Ted is in his second year at Fuqua, focusing on strategy and operations targeting opportunities in the consumer technology space. He leads tech startup networking within the EVCC, as well as serving on the extended cabinet of the High-Tech Club and as a Career Fellow and an Admissions Fellow. This summer, Ted is working at Apple in an online operations role.
In his first year, he led a web start-up team in the Program for Entrepreneurs and reached the semi-finals in the Duke Start-Up Challenge. Within the EVCC, he brought local entrepreneurs on campus for a series of lunches with current students as well several events bridging the Fuqua and Durham entrepreneurship communities. He also worked as an analyst for two start-up focused companies.
Prior to returning to school, Ted was an online product manager for SNL Financial, a financial news and data provider to banks and corporations in the media, financial services, real estate and energy spaces. Prior to SNL, he was a human capital consultant with Deloitte Consulting, providing change management and people strategy services to financial services and healthcare companies. Ted graduated from Vanderbilt University with a BS in Human and Organizational Development.
Kate Kane, Director of Women in Business
Kate is a Trinity College (CT) alum and former marketing manager for luxury diamond jeweler Harry Winston. Kate has been an entrepreneur since age 10, when she began making jewelry for friends and family. Eager to supplement her creative talents with a solid business skill set, Kate saw an MBA from Duke as a natural next step after 5 years at Harry Winston. She is currently working on her start-up, K Kane - a custom designed monogram jewelry line, within Fuqua's Program for Entrepreneurs. Kate is also next year's co-president of the Luxury Brand & Retail Club.
Craig Kronberg, Marketing and Communications
Craig Kronberg is a second-year at Fuqua, concentrating in management and leadership. His role as Communications Director is to ensure that the Fuqua, Duke, and surrounding communities are aware of the events hosted by the Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital Club. Craig is interested in technology start-ups and enjoys being part of the entrepreneurial environment at Duke.
Prior to Fuqua, Craig worked for several years as a supply chain engineer in Atlanta, Georgia. His focus was on improving productivity and quality in large-scale distribution centers across the country. Craig holds a master’s degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Miami and a bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from Tulane University.
Olgun Kukrer, Director of Venture Capital Events
Olgun is a 2nd year Fuqua student and currently serves as the Director of Venture Events for the Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital Club (EVCC). He is also the co-president for the Duke Start-up Challenge and the Fuqua-2-Duke Mentoring Club. In addition to his club activities, Olgun is the founder of a Start-up actively progressing through the Program for Entrepreneurs at Duke
Prior to attending Fuqua, Olgun worked for GE Healthcare for 9 years in various roles in Engineering and Operations Management. In his last role, Olgun started a new P&L under GE Healthcare that designed and manufactured non-healthcare products using GEHC's cutting-edge healthcare technology. Olgun led the business to over $12MM in revenue with nearly 70% year-over-year growth.
Peter Menachem, Director of EVCC Symposium
Peter Menachem is a second year student at Fuqua, concentrating on Finance. He is co-leading the EVCC’s Fuqua Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital Conference, a half day event featuring multiple panels filled with successful entrepreneurs and investors.
Prior to Fuqua, Peter worked at a boutique investment bank that serviced both public and private companies. He has also made investments into Salsa Timoteo, a specialty food company that he manages and SNL Holdings, a residential real estate development and leasing company. Peter also serves on the Executive Board of the Private Equity Club at Fuqua and serves as the Student Life Executive Director of the Fuqua MBAA (student government).
Ziad Mohamed, Director of Healthcare Networking
Ziad is a second year MBA student concentrating in Entrepreneurship and pursuing a certificate in Health Sector Management at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. Ziad is currently serving as a Young Entrepreneur in Residence at NC IDEA, an organization that supports seed and early stage North Carolina based technology and life science companies through grant financing. Previously, he was also involved in the Program for Entrepreneurs with fellow classmates to commercialize a medical device for minimally invasive tissue removal.
As the Director of Healthcare Startup Networking for the Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital Club, he is interested in helping fellow students leverage the resources at Fuqua to develop their startup careers. Prior to business school, Ziad was working in the medical device industry, for Johnson & Johnson, for approximately 8 years. There he worked in various roles including engineering, operations, and field sales. Ziad holds a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
Fernando Trueba, Director of EVCC Symposium
Fernando is a second year Fuqua student and currently serves as the Co-Chair responsible for the organization and execution of the EVCC conference. In the summer, he will be working as an intern at Microsoft in the product management and business development division of Office Applications.
During his first year at Fuqua, Fernando was enrolled in the Program for Entrepreneurs, working on the evaluation and development of his own venture. In addition, he has been deeply involved in the entrepreneurial community in Durham. Fernando is currently helping a local entrepreneur to develop the business plan and marketing strategy for his start-up. Furthermore, Fernando was part of the team that placed second in the regional VCIC at Georgetown University, representing Fuqua. In other activities, he is an active member of the Fuqua Soccer Club, the Corporate Relations Director of LASA, and an Admissions Fellow.
Prior to attending Fuqua, Fernando worked for 7 years in the CPG industry. He acted as Group Product Director for Johnson & Johnson in the Nutritionals Business in Latin America, based in Mexico. Fernando led regional team of finance, operations, sales, and marketing to design and implement business plans and marketing strategies for the Splenda brand in Mexico and Central America, increasing sales for the region 400% in four years. Before Johnson & Johnson, Fernando worked two years as Marketing Manager for Red Bull.
Fernando studied Industrial Engineering at ITESM-CCM in Mexico City. He decided to attend business school to strengthen his financial acumen and pursue his dream to be a successful entrepreneur. He chose Fuqua based on the resources the school offers to support entrepreneurs. Fernando enjoys playing soccer, golf, skiing, and is passionate about entrepreneurship. He believes Duke is an incredible place to learn about starting a business, and the RTP area a great location to do it.
