Entrepreneurship Opportunities
Mentored Study in Entrepreneurship
The course is designed for students who wish to experience an entrepreneurial career path (whether or not they plan to be involved with such a venture in the near future) and who are willing to invest the effort required for such an experience. Participating students are placed into part-time internships during the school year with local entrepreneurial start-up and early stage companies, non-profit organizations, real estate developers, venture capital firms, and other entrepreneurial ventures.
It is expected that students will have a general management experience in a high growth environment. All participating companies are asked to assign a senior company official as a mentor to each student and to provide each student with as broad and multifunctional an exposure to their business as possible. Typically, projects might include involvement in some or all of the following: preparing a business plan and/or financial projections, raising venture capital and other sources of financing, identifying and evaluating corporate partnering and licensing opportunities, evaluating competitors, and developing marketing strategies.
The Mentored Study in Entrepreneurship Program offers students course credit for participation in part-time internships during the school year. The objective is to create experiential learning opportunities within local businesses. Participating students select where they would like to be placed – and those placements have included entrepreneurial companies, real estate developers, and non-profit organizations. A description of the course, Management 431, is available on the Fuqua website.
Attendance at one of the information session is a prerequisite to participation and other sessions will be held during the year. However, please note that these next two sessions may be your only opportunity to qualify for participation starting next term.

SwellCaroline.com Goes Baby (Indy study project)
In partnership with my cousin's company, SwellCaroline.com, we are looking to launch a new baby centric sister brand with a social mission. A new twist to registering, the company is working on merchandising, researching distributors and creative designers to partner with, and trying to gauge the best way to implement a new social marketplace for used baby goods as a pro bono project associated with the brand.
Brooke Henze is an MBA 2011 grad (former Women in E President) and works with women entrepreneurs through her start-up Red Wagon Venture. She is now working on the launch of the new sister brand to SwellCaroline. Please email her at brooke@redwagonventure.com if you have an interest in getting credit for time spent on the development of this new social enterprise. She would be thrilled to share her insights and provide hands on opportunities to build your understanding of the start-up environment and connect you with resources in the Bay Area and the Triangle.
Can be completed virtually.
For anyone who would like to pursue an independent study project in a different area, please feel free to contact me. I work with plenty of growth stage ventures that would love to utilize a talented MBA candidate and provide specific projects for them in exchange for course credit. I have a client in the culinary space, food retail, recycling industry, sustainable home services, etc.

Loved Twice Needs MBA Assistance (Indy study project)
Through Red Wagon Venture, Brooke is also working with a wonderful young non-profit called Loved Twice. The organization was started following Katrina and packages gently used baby clothes to help a homeless infant through its first year of life. The organization is headed by a very talented former designer from Levi-Strauss and Joe Boxers and has been featured in People magazine among other publications. The founder is currently working diligently to develop a new individual donor program and expand its initiatives to improve funding to cover operational costs, a new warehouse rental, and the cost of a new employee to help with logistics. If you are interested in a Bay Area project that affords opportunities to work with Bay Area businesses and social organizations, this would be a wonderful independent study project with support from the founder, Brooke and opportunities to self-direct work and be creative. This would be incredibly fun. Contact brooke@redwagonventure.com if interested!
